Grading Criteria

P1 – Describe broadcast radio commercials, expressing ideas with sufficient clarity to communicate them and with some appropriate use of subject terminology [IE]

M1 -Explain with reference to well-chosen examples broadcast radio commercials, expressing ideas with clarity and with generally appropriate use of subject terminology

D1 – Critically evaluate broadcast radio commercials with supporting arguments and elucidated examples, expressing ideas fluently and using subject terminology correctly

Brief

Individually, select and analyse a range of UK/US radio commercials, selecting at least 2 retro ads (produced between the 1950s and 1980s) and 2 modern ads. You analysis must cover:

  • purposes of commercials
  • styles of commercials
  • structures of commercials
  • regulation and its impact on the content and message of commercials.

The analysis must demonstrate your understanding of current radio commercials styles structures, purpose and examine the regulations relating to radio commercials.

Relevant Information

Listened in lesson to various types of Radio Advertisements, discussion and deconstruct within lesson.

Discussion of varying types and styles of Radio Advertising, Analysing adverts that have been played to group/class. Discussion of what types were used and how retro and modern radio commercials differ.
