Grading Criteria

P3: plan and research a factual programme for television working within appropriate conventions and with some assistance [IE, CT, SM]
M3: plan and research a factual programme for television effectively showing some imagination and with only occasional assistance
D3: plan and research a factual programme for television to a quality that reflects near-professional standards, showing creativity and flair and working independently to professional expectations
P4: produce a factual programme for television working within appropriate conventions and with some assistance. [CT, SM, TW]
M4: produce a factual programme for television competently showing some imagination and with only occasional assistance.
D4: produce a factual programme for television to a technical quality that reflects near-professional standards, showing creativity and flair and working independently to professional expectations.

Brief

You are required to research a suitable idea for a 2-3 minute news or factual piece in a factual television magazine programme, pitch proposal to commissioning editor, conduct pre-production activity and produce the piece.

Task

Stage 1: Individually or in pairs, you will:

  • generate ideas for one or more 2-3 minute news insert
  • fully research your idea ideas
  • develop a proposal for the chosen ideas
  • pitch the proposal to your teacher who will act as the commissioning editor, highlighting the main findings of your research and justifying your choices

Stage 2: You will employ a production team to assist you when carrying out the production, then you will:

  • film and edit one or more news pieces
  • present your finished work in an appropriate format.
  • Review the final production

build a portfolio/folder of pre-production documentation needed to effectively produce the news pieces

Evidence

Production diary.
Research portfolio/notes.
Pitch presentation – recorded.
Pre-production documentation portfolio including treatment, scripts, call sheets, health and safety consideration etc.
Teacher observation & witness documentation
Production documentation portfolio shot logs.
Final production presented in an appropriate format.
Evaluation of own performance and group production
